Description

In Egypt, the mirror has strong symbolism with the sun disk. The offering of two mirrors in Egyptian temples stresses that the two disks represent the sun, the moon, and their inherent power. Egyptian mirrors always retained more or less the same shape as a flat, oval plate of polished copper or bronze often with a wooden or bone handle. Since the Middle Kingdom at least, the Sun-Disk provided a model for the mirror as in the case of this reproduction. The handle of this mirror is shaped in the form of the goddess Isis. Isis was regarded as the mother goddess of Egypt and symbolical mother of the king. Isis was worshiped as the "Great of Magic‚" and called the "Eye of Ra". With her husband Osiris and their son Horus they form the main triad of Egypt. Measures 8.75"H x 4"W x 1.25"L. NOTE: item is not self standing and Nefertiti statue pictured is not included.

Nice reproduction for Egyptian Isis mirror. Good hand size. Detail of the goddess. The round reflecting mirror is great.
