Bernini | Italian Baroque Sculptor

bernini apollo and daphne replica, pluto and proserpina statueGianlorenzo Bernini (1598 - 1680) was a prolific sculptor, painter and architect during the Counter-Reformation period in Rome. He received patronage from Cardinal Scipione Borghese and Pope Urban VIII of the Barberini family including the canopy baldachin over the tomb and high altar of St Peter's Basilica. His work usually shows an interest in light, illumination of understanding, and an integration of setting and art into a unified whole. Two of his most famous statues are Apollo and Daphne and the Ecstasy of Saint Teresa. We wish more reproductions would be made of his masterful artworks.
