  • $47.00 USD

Dangle pierced earrings with image of Sekhmet, the lion-headed Egyptian goddess. Very nice detail of Lioness wearing a solar disc with cobra serpent.

The original from which our Sekhmet jewelry was adapted was found during The University of Pennsylvania Museum's excavation (1915-1919) in the city of Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt. Among the pieces found in a cache of gold and silver jewelry, was a pendant of solid gold in the figure of Sakhmet, the lioness-headed goddess of medicine and healing. While the dead, often wore amulets such as this one, they could also be used by the living to offer the protection of particular divinity to the wearer. From the Egyptian section at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. 24 Karat antique gold-plate over pewter. Gold-filled ear wires. Measures 1.5H x 0.5W each.
