Adam from Gates of Hell by Rodin, Bronze Metal with Marble Base 21.75H

PN# TAL772M
  • $877.50 USD

This Auguste Rodin sculpture of the biblical Adam is taken from a much grander piece entitled The Gates of Hell. As the first man to know the meaning of shame, Adam is adeptly illustrated by Rodin with lifelike vigor and dignity. Rodin received the commission in 1880 for the Gates of Hell, a decorative door for the future Museum of Decorative Arts (Musee des Beaux Arts), to be decorated with low reliefs inspired by The Divine Comedy of Dante. Although the Gates of Hell was never completed, some of Rodin's most famous and memorable pieces were originally done for it including Adam, The Thinker, Eve, and The Kiss. He sculpted them in several sizes and exhibited them extensively.
