### Vanilla Begins in Mesoamerica

Vanilla is an orchid. The spice comes mainly from Vanilla planifolia, native to Mesoamerica.

The Totonac of Veracruz were among the first to cultivate it. The Aztecs conquered them in 1427.

### From Xocolatl to Europe

The Aztecs mixed vanilla with cocoa in a drink called xocolatl. Spaniards carried vanilla and chocolate to Europe in the 1520s.

This vanilla sugar cane incense keeps the sweetness warm. Find more in our [Museumize incense collection](https://www.museumize.com/collections/fragrance-incense-sticks).

### Hand Pollination

In 1841 Edmond Albius, an enslaved boy on Reunion, devised hand pollination. That method made vanilla farming possible worldwide. Hand pollination remains the standard method in commercial production today.

### Burning and Care

Burn it in a ventilated room on a proper holder. Never leave burning incense unattended, and keep it away from children and pets.

Burn this Aztec vanilla incense for a Precolumbian scent incense mood. It serves as sweet vanilla incense sticks and a vanilla sugar cane incense. Fans of sweet vanilla incense sticks and a Precolumbian scent incense will enjoy it.

### About the Mythos Collection

This scent belongs to the Mythos Collection, a series of ancient formulas drawn from history across many countries.
