## Dolphins in Greek and Roman Art

Greeks painted dolphins on vases and walls. They saw them as friends of sailors. A famous myth tells of Dionysos and the pirates who became dolphins. This double dolphin base carries that sea lore indoors. Dolphins appear in Greek art from about 1700 BC, on frescoes and vases. A dolphin console table base keeps that lore alive.

## Console or Dining Table

One base fits behind a sofa or in an entryway. Order a pair, and it becomes a dolphin dining table base. Glass is sold separately. See the [finishes and FAQ page](/pages/historic-table-bases-frequently-asked-questions) for color chips. The double dolphin base has a long, low profile. The entryway console base sits against a wall without crowding the floor. A dolphin console table base also works behind a sofa. An entryway console base like this holds a 12 x 36 in glass top.

## About Sea Imagery in Antiquity

Greece is a land of islands, so the sea fills its myths. Dolphins, tritons, and nymphs decorated vases, mosaics, and temples. A dolphin dining table base brings that sea imagery to a family meal. The double dolphin base carries that tradition with two figures. A dolphin console table base is a fitting nod to the sea.
