## Fluting and the Classical Orders

Fluting is a row of vertical grooves, most often cut into columns. It appears on every classical order except the Tuscan. Doric columns have 20 grooves. Ionic and Corinthian columns have 24. This fluted console base borrows that rhythm in a small, modern form.

## A Neoclassical Console Table

In the later 1700s, French makers carved chair legs like tapering Greek or Roman columns. This neoclassical buffet table support follows that idea. Use it as a buffet, a console, or a sofa table base. Order one piece for a pedestal. ## Using the Fluted Console Base

Order two pieces for a console table for glass top use. Each fluted console base weighs 32 lbs. Glass from 12 x 42 in to 14 x 48 in fits a pair. It also serves as a sofa table base in a living room. Glass is not included.

## About Neoclassical Furniture

Neoclassical furniture rose from interest in Greek and Roman art. Discoveries at Herculaneum and Pompeii inspired designers across Europe. Columns, garlands, and clean lines replaced the curves of the earlier rococo. A neoclassical buffet table base shows that taste at a modest scale.
