# Great Sphinx Human Headed Lion at Giza Miniature Statue Weathered 6.75L

## Guardian of the Giza Plateau in the Palm of Your Hand: A Great Sphinx Miniature

A calm human face rises above a crouching lion's body. This **Great Sphinx miniature** is a hand colored resin replica of the Giza monument, in sandstone color. It brings an ancient guardian to your desk.

The original Sphinx was carved about 2500 BC, probably for the pharaoh Khafre. Its lion body symbolized royal strength, and its human head showed the king's wisdom. This Giza Sphinx statue keeps both ideas. A Giza Sphinx statue of this kind pairs well with books.

The finish on this Great Sphinx miniature recalls weathered limestone. Wind and sand have softened the real monument for centuries. The softened detail is part of its charm.

## A Monument at Desk Scale

Hand coloring gives the resin a warm sandstone tone. The pose is calm, with paws stretched forward. An Egyptian Sphinx figurine like this suits a shelf, desk, or bookcase. An Egyptian Sphinx figurine rewards a close look.

## The Great Sphinx of Giza

The Great Sphinx stands on the Giza plateau beside the pyramids of Khafre and Khufu. Carved from a single outcrop of limestone, it was made about 2500 BC. It has the body of a lion and a human head, likely a pharaoh's portrait. Sand buried it for long periods, and rulers and archaeologists have cleared it many times. It remains the world's best known monument of ancient Egypt.
