# Lady with Unicorn Sense of Sight Woven Wall Tapestry 53W x 48H

The **Lady and the Unicorn** is a series of six tapestries woven in Flanders of wool and silk and is often considered one of the greatest works of art of the **Middle Ages** in Europe. Five of the tapestries are interpreted as depicting the five senses: taste, hearing, sight, smell, and touch and a sixth one named desire that is believed to mean representing love or understanding. Each of the six tapestries depicts a noble lady with the unicorn on her left and a lion on her right and some include a monkey in the scene.

In this tapestry, the **sense of sight is depicted** by the reflection of the unicorn in the looking glass which the lady holds. The original was woven in Flanders in the late 15th century.
