## Tunjos and Offerings

A tunjo is a small gold votive figure of the Muisca. The Met dates a female example to the 10th to 16th century.

Such figures were buried in groups or thrown into lakes. They are rare in tombs.

## Fertility and Protection

The Muisca made female figures as signs of fertility and the nurturing forces of life. They stood for protection and abundance.

A Pre-Columbian woman pendant carries those hopes.

## Wearing and Display

Wear the Muisca figure pendant on its 18 in chain at the collarbone. Wipe with a soft cloth.
