## Horses in Tang Tombs

Tang dynasty tomb figures date from 618 to 906. They were made as grave goods called mingqi. People believed the figures would serve the dead in the afterlife. Horses were among the most common animals, alongside camels. A tomb horse figure stood ready to serve the dead. This Tang Dynasty horse statue echoes that role.

## Why the Tang Prized Horses

Tang horses were modeled on the heavenly horses of Ferghana, in Central Asia. Central Asian nomads were known for powerful warhorses. Owning such horses signaled wealth, power, and a cosmopolitan outlook. This Chinese horse sculpture keeps that strong, rounded form.

## The Year of the Horse

The horse is an ancient symbol of strength, transformation, and perseverance. People born in the Year of the Horse are seen as warm-hearted, independent, and adventurous.

## Placing the Horse

At 11 lbs, the piece is easy to move. See the [finishes and FAQ page](https://museumize.com/pages/historic-table-bases-frequently-asked-questions) for color chips.
