# Vatican Angel Plate - Melozzo da Forli Angel Playing the Viol Porcelain AS IS ATTIC no returns

## A Vatican Angel Plate from a Lost Renaissance Fresco

Melozzo da Forli painted this musical angel around 1480, and only fragments of his fresco survive. This Vatican angel plate is a 10.6 in porcelain round with a gold rim, made in Italy.

The angel has curling golden hair, a pale blue halo, and an orange robe with blue straps. Soft gray wings frame the figure. The angel draws a bow across a viol and gazes upward. A white border carries four small squares, each with the crossed keys and tiara of the Holy See. Edizioni Musei Vaticani marks the underside.

This plate has been safely packaged in storage for many years. It remains in excellent condition and comes in its original red presentation box.

### About Melozzo da Forli

**Melozzo da Forli** (1438-1494) was an Italian Renaissance painter who worked for Pope Sixtus IV. He was admired for bold foreshortening, painting figures as if seen from below. His angels still look as if they float above the viewer.
