Coonley Playhouse Left Panel Stained Glass by Frank Lloyd Wright 14.1HPN# T82550
Frank Lloyd Wright created this stained glass as a series of three similar designs in one panel. At left is pictured the original. The stained glass windows was commissioned by Avery Coonley for a playhouse (1911-12) where she wanted to teach kindergarten. Using geometric forms, Wright evoked fanciful shapes children like including balloons and flags set amidst a linear pattern. The design is a simplified replication of line, shape and color which is both understated and stimulating.
We are offering licensed reproductions of the Coonley Playhouse series as three separate stained glass sections. Left is PN# T82550, Center is PN# T82560, and Right is PN# T82570.
This page listing is for the LEFT PANEL, T82550. Stained Glass measures: 14.1"H x 5.1"W. Base measures 5.1"L x 2.75"W x 0.75"H.
Wright used stained glass as light screens to bring the natural light into the home. He sought to enliven the house with panels of colored glass often designed in geometric shapes evoking nature. The effect is like a modern cathedral glowing with light and serenity.
