Roman Erotic Longing Torso of a Youth Nude Statue 22HPN# 8651
The marble torso on which our reproduction is based (Roman, Imperial period, 1st or 2nd century A.D.) is a copy or adaptation of a Greek statue of the fourth century B.C. The sinuous leaning pose of this youth brings to mind a famous statue of the deity Pothos, the mythological personification of erotic longing (pothos means desire), that was much copied in the Roman period. Even today it is a beautiful example of homoerotic art even though it was made centuries ago. (PN 8651)
Based on this evocative Roman work, our reduced-scale reproduction was created with a combination of three-dimensional imaging and traditional sculpture techniques.
- Torso of a Youth is cast in resin and hand patinated.
- Measures 22 in H x 8 in W x 7 in 'D (including base). Weighs 22 lbs.
Licensed reproduction from the Metropolitan Museum.
