Glass half dome paperweight with drawing by Peter Paul Rubens of his son Nicholas. It is a tender study of the young boy, 1 to 2 years old, as he looks down. His cheeks have a softness, while his hair has wavy individual strands. Typical of Rubens' work, the drawing has a lifelike quality, here imbued with sweetness as seen through a father's eyes.

This would make a touching gift at a baby shower for a new young mother of a baby boy.

Peter Paul Rubens was probably the principal exponent of Flemish Baroque although he clearly incorporated Italian influences. Rubens was born in Siegen, Germany. When he was still a child, his family moved to Antwerp where he later received his artistic training from Tobias Verhaecht, Adam van Noort and Otto van veen who taught him all the ins and outs of his profession. His talent was confirmed by the guild in Antwerp which accepted him as a master. Rubens' style belongs to the Antwerp school of the early 17th century. Rubens
