Gaius Julius Caesar (13 July 100 BC - 15 March 44 BC) was a renowned Roman general and politician. He supposedly descended from the Trojan prince Aeneas. After a difficult youth, Caesar slowly became a beloved leader of the Roman Republic. At his return from Gaul wars, he provoked a civil war against Pompey by crossing Rubicon river without dismissing his army. He eventually beat Pompey and became lifetime dictator of Rome. His aspirations to become an unelected official for life -- essential a king -- did not go over well with the other senators. They killed him on the Ides of March.
