Because of this role, Michael became known across Christian tradition as a protector of the faithful and a patron of soldiers.

A Widespread Type, Not One Single Statue

Artists have returned to this subject of Michael slaying the devil figurine for centuries, so this piece is not a copy of one named sculpture. One of the most famous versions is the bronze Michael atop Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome, sculpted by Peter Anton von Verschaffelt in 1753, replacing an earlier marble by Raffaello da Montelupo from 1536. Legend ties that statue to a vision Pope Gregory I reportedly had around 590 CE, during a plague, in which he saw an angel sheathing a sword atop the fortress.

Michael as Protector

Beyond this single scene, Michael has long been honored as a defender in Christian devotion, invoked for courage and protection in difficult moments. That history is part of why small statues like this one are kept on altars, shelves, or even car dashboards.

Who This Archangel Michael Statue Suits

This Christian angel statue suits anyone building a personal altar, collecting Christian devotional art, or looking for a meaningful small gift tied to protection and courage.
