The Met owns a Sprite from about 1914 that is 65 in tall.

Its facets reflect Cubism, which was a new influence in 1914. The Frank Lloyd Wright baton sprite shares that angular look. The Frank Lloyd Wright baton sprite is a playful accent. It is also a Midway Gardens dance floor sculpture in miniature.

Frank Lloyd Wright in Brief

Frank Lloyd Wright lived from 1867 to 1959. He trained under Louis Sullivan in Chicago and developed the Prairie style at his Oak Park studio. Midway Gardens opened in 1914 and was among his most colorful commissions. A Midway Gardens dance floor sculpture is a fine memento. Few Frank Lloyd Wright baton sprite designs are as lively.

For More Reading from the Web

Read how Midway Gardens became a Chicago dance hall and what happened to it. Midway Gardens - Wikipedia

See a real sprite from the Gardens at the Met, with notes on its Cubist face. Sprite by Wright and Iannelli - The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Nichols Bros.
