Gaius Julius Caesar (13 July, 100BC - 15 March, 44BC): Renowned Roman general and politician, Gaius Julius Caesar was born into a patrician family that supposedly descended from the Trojan Prince Aeneas. After a difficult youth, Caesar slowly became a beloved leader of the Republic. At his return from the Gallic Campaigns, he provoked a Civil war against Pompey by crossing the Rubicon river without dismissing his army. He eventually beat Pompey and became life-time dictator of Rome, only to be killed soon after by a group of senators. His grand nephew Octavian (later declared Augustus) would follow his lead and aspire to building Rome into one of the greatest empires of all time.
