Gaius Julius Caesar (13 July, 100BC - 15 March, 44BC): Renowned Roman general and politician, Gaius Julius Caesar was born into a patrician family that supposedly descended from the Trojan Prince Aeneas. After a difficult youth, Caesar slowly became a beloved leader of the Republic. At his return from the Gallic Campaigns, he provoked a Civil war against Pompey by crossing the Rubicon river without dismissing his army. He eventually beat Pompey and became life-time dictator of Rome, only to be killed soon after by a group of senators. His grand nephew Octavian (later declared Augustus as Roman Emperor) would follow his lead and aspire to building Rome into one of the greatest empires of all time.
