At its heart is the famous Empire State Building which was erected in 1931 by the architect William Lamb in the Art Deco style. Made from concrete and metal, the structure stands 1,250 feet high with 102 floors. This glorious structure was built in only one year and 45 days - which still holds the record for a skyscraper of such height. It is struck by lightning more than 100 times each year.
