The Day of the Dead celebration dates back over 3,000 years and its purpose was to honor the spirits of the deceased. The tradition originates back from ancient Aztec ceremonies which is why the skull representing life and rebirth played an important role in the ritual . When the Spaniards reached Mexico they found the tradition to be barbaric and pagan. In their attempt to convert the natives into Catholics they moved the ritual to coincide with All Saint's Day, November 1st and 2nd.

Skull Theme Box, Day of the Dead is made from hand painted resin and measures 2"H x 3.75"W x 5.5"D.
