Our Sugar Skull Votive Holder, Day of the Dead is an adaptation of a very popular tradition in Mexican culture. During the Day of the Dead (dia de los muertos) celebration in early November, families make skull statues out of sugar and decorate them with elaborate patterns, bright colors and colorful papers. They take them to grave sites to decorate in celebration of their deceased family members. It is part of the entire festivities which celebrate life and death as a renewal.
This sugar statue adaptation is made from resin and decorated with raised and recessed line art in red and black. The top has an inset area suitable for placing a votive candle. The picture shows the front and back side of the round statue. Decorations are present on all sides.
