Venus de Milo (Aphrodite de Melos) Statue Lifesize Garden Statuary or Home Decor 72H - 4726 -
In 1820, a Greek farmer on the Aegean Island of Melos found the Aphrodite broken into pieces and scattered about in a cavern. Collecting the pieces, he hid them in his barn until the ruling Turkish authorities found her. Working out a covert payoff, the French then obtained and loaded her onto a frigate in the Aegean. The Aphrodite was bound for Paris, and ultimately The Louvre. This is one of the most widely respected and reproduced of all ancient Greek works (ca. 2nd century BC) and adds loveliness to any setting.
