As time went by the highly-respected Dutch landscape painter, Mondrian, started to use brighter and more primary colors in his landscape paintings and they also became more abstract. Based on his theosophical vision of life he regarded art as "a slow growth toward the spiritual". His abstract paintings eventually became geometrical, with horizontal and vertical lines, constructed in a way that was "deliberate but not calculating".
