Collection: Degas Ballerina Art Collection – Ballet Sculptures and Dance Replicas

The Degas Ballerina is Iconic

The Degas ballerina (le petite danseuse de quatorze ans) remains one of the most iconic subjects in nineteenth-century art. Edgar Degas (1834–1917) devoted his career to observing dancers behind the scenes, capturing intimate rehearsals, stretching sessions, and quiet moments offstage. His paintings reveal the discipline, tension, and quiet concentration that define the world of dance.

Degas transformed his approach after encountering Japanese woodblock prints in Paris. Their bold cropping and dramatic viewpoints encouraged him to experiment with unusual perspectives. These influences shaped many of the ballet compositions we recognize today.

In his later years, Degas turned to sculpture, creating his celebrated Little Dancer of Fourteen Years. The figure changed modern sculpture with its realistic posture, textured surfaces, and mixed materials. Our collection honors this legacy with carefully crafted Degas ballet dancers and other Degas statues from the Parastone Museum Collection.
