A Lost Landmark's Motto, Cast in Sandstone: Larkin Building Thought Feeling Action Plaque

Frank Lloyd Wright designed the Larkin Administration Building in Buffalo for the Larkin Company. This Larkin Building Thought Feeling Action plaque keeps one of its mottos alive in reconstituted sandstone. The building is gone, but its inspiration remains.

Wright won the commission through Darwin D. Martin, a Larkin executive. The building opened around 1906 as Wright's first major commercial project. It was demolished in 1950. The Frank Lloyd Wright Larkin Building lives on in photographs and in this plaque.

Its offices rose around a skylit central court, and Wright designed even the furniture. The Frank Lloyd Wright Larkin Building proved that a workplace could be a work of art. This plaque preserves a motto in that spirit.

Three Words, One Philosophy

The three words read as a simple creed for making things. Wright's message is plain and memorable. A Frank Lloyd Wright wall plaque rarely speaks so directly. This Larkin Building Thought Feeling Action plaque is a rare example.

Reconstituted sandstone gives the plaque weight and a quiet, stony presence. This reconstituted sandstone plaque is ready for interior or exterior use. Explore more in our Frank Lloyd Wright collection, where every Frank Lloyd Wright wall plaque continues his story. A reconstituted sandstone plaque weathers well.

Frank Lloyd Wright in Brief

Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) was born in Wisconsin and trained under Louis Sullivan in Chicago. In his Oak Park studio he developed the Prairie style, with low horizontal lines and open interiors. He designed buildings as whole environments, down to the furniture, textiles, and art glass. His later work includes Fallingwater and the Guggenheim Museum. His influence reaches far beyond architecture.
