Twelve thousand years ago, Smilodon californicus was the dominant predator of Ice Age North America -- a powerfully built cat whose elongated upper canines, reaching up to 11 inches in length, made it one of the most anatomically extraordinary mammals ever to evolve. The original of this cast resides in the collections of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. This Smilodon cranial cast in antique white presents that same iconic anatomy in a clean, gallery-ready finish suited to any display environment.

Classic, Clean, and Gallery-Ready

The antique white finish is the more versatile of the two Smilodon colorways -- warm-toned, luminous, and designed to read beautifully against bookshelves, display cases, and naturalist's study walls. As a prehistoric predator museum reproduction, the 5096AW pairs naturally with other compound stone saber tooth display pieces and lighter-toned natural history collections. The skull is mounted in the attack position on an oak wood display stand, jaws parted to reveal the full length of the canine sheaths.

The Smilodon Cranial Cast -- Anatomy and Craftsmanship

Hand-cast in compound stone in the USA, every anatomical feature is faithfully rendered from authenticated museum specimen molds: the dramatic zygomatic arches, the deep temporal fossae that housed the powerful jaw musculature, and the extraordinary canine root sheaths that extended well above the gumline. Dimensions: 12 in H x 8 in W x 13 in L with stand. Weighs approximately 12 lbs. Oak display stand included. Name plate not included.
