The Home on South Eighth Street

Lincoln owned only one home in his life. The family bought the house at 413 South Eighth Street for $1,500 and moved in on May 1, 1844. Three of their children were born there, and three died there.

The family left for Washington in 1861, and tenants moved in. Robert Todd Lincoln deeded the house to the State of Illinois in 1887.

From Walkway to Historic Brick Fragment

This brick was removed during restoration work in 1954, when broken brickwork was replaced. The National Park Service now manages the home as a National Historic Site. Any Lincoln memorabilia with this clear a source is rare.
