Barton House Stained Glass: A Quiet Gem from Buffalo
Beside the grand Martin House stood a smaller home with glass of its own. Frank Lloyd Wright gave it the same care. This Barton House stained glass panel recalls a tall, narrow buffet door window.
Wright designed the Barton House between 1903 and 1905 for George and Delta Barton. Delta was the sister of Darwin D. Martin. Both men worked for the Larkin Company in Buffalo, New York.
The house stands beside the Martin House as part of one planned complex. It was the first building of the group to be completed. Its glass belongs to the same family of Martin House art glass.
Detail on a Domestic Scale
A buffet door asks for small, precise design. Wright answered with disciplined geometry sized for a tall, narrow opening. This Frank Lloyd Wright buffet door window shows his care for everyday details.
Wright described his windows as light screens. Explore more in our Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass collection. Like other Martin House art glass, this panel suits a bright setting. A narrow Prairie style stained glass panel like this one fits a tall opening.
