Coins as Portraits
The First Portrait Denarius of 44 B.C. was the first Roman coin to carry a living man. After his death, the Posthumous Denarius kept his image in circulation. These Roman coin replicas trace that change.
The Roman Denarius
The denarius was a silver coin first minted around 211 BCE. It became one of the great currencies of antiquity. Soldiers, traders, and tax collectors all used it. Denarius replica coins like these make good teaching tools.
Lessons in Currency
Students can compare the Julius Caesar denarius struck in 49 B.C. with the portrait coin of 44 B.C. Each Julius Caesar denarius tells a story of power. Roman coin replicas make a gift for any lover of antiquity. Denarius replica coins also suit a school display.
