About the Roman Denarius:

The Roman denarius was a silver coin first minted around 211 BCE during the Roman Republic and became one of the most significant currencies in ancient Rome. Initially, it weighed approximately 4.5 grams and was divided into 10 original "assi," making it a valuable medium of exchange. Over time, the denarius underwent various changes in weight and silver content, particularly during periods of economic strain, including the Punic Wars and later during the crisis of the third century CE.
