The name Daspletosaurus means frightful lizard. It was a carnivore about 9 meters long. It weighed roughly 2.5 metric tons.
It lived along the Western Interior Seaway before Tyrannosaurus rex. It hunted hadrosaurs and horned dinosaurs.
Montana's Fossil Beds
Each Two Medicine Formation fossil helps map the tyrannosaur family tree. This Daspletosaurus leg bone is a small piece of that story.
Its bite force was more than seven times an alligator's. Evidence hints at packs of at least three animals.
