The Flies of Queen Ahhotep
The design recalls golden flies found in the burial of Queen Ahhotep. They came from Dra Abu el-Naga in West Thebes. The original is in the Luxor Museum.
It dates to about 1560 to 1530 BC. The queen's original chain carries three flies, and this design multiplies them.
Why a Fly?
The fly symbolized tenacity. Soldiers could earn a gold fly for courage in battle.
An Ahhotep fly pendant therefore stands for persistence. The Egyptian military honor necklace turns an insect into a medal.
Wearing and Display
Wear the Egyptian fly necklace at the collarbone. Choose a longer length for a looser drape. Wipe with a soft cloth.
