A Tiny Egg in Jewel Tones: The Faberge Egg Pendant
Bright green and blue enamel wrap a small egg of gold plated pewter, hung from an 18 in chain. The Faberge egg pendant follows the style of Carl Faberge, who made the most famous eggs in the world.
At 1 in tall, this Faberge egg necklace is a charm-sized nod to a royal tradition. The enamel is glossy and the colors sit bright against the gold.

The Eggs of the Tsar
In 1885 Tsar Alexander III ordered a special Easter egg for his wife. It was the first of fifty made for the Romanov family. Production ended with the revolution in 1917.
Many eggs opened to reveal a hidden surprise. Others were small fantasies in gold, enamel and gems. Russian egg jewelry today still follows their shape.
How Faberge Used Color
Faberge's firm was known for transparent enamel laid over engraved gold. The glass-like layer let the pattern show through. A blue green enamel pendant echoes that depth, though in a simpler way.
Green and blue look cool against yellow gold, like water or a peacock feather. The Faberge egg pendant shows the pairing well.
Wearing the Faberge Egg Necklace
Wear the egg at the collarbone on its gold plated chain. Keep the Faberge egg pendant dry and out of perfume. Wipe the enamel with a soft cloth. Store Russian egg jewelry in a pouch so the chain does not tangle.

A Master of Replicas
In the 1870s Faberge studied the Hermitage collection of ancient gold. In 1882 he won a gold medal in Moscow for replicas of those objects. That skill with copies and fine detail helped him win the court. Russian egg jewelry begins with his eggs.
