The Mask Itself
Tutankhamun ruled Egypt from about 1333 to 1323 BC. Howard Carter found his tomb in 1922 in Western Thebes.
The original mask weighs about 10 kg and is made of two hammered sheets of gold. Its eyes are inlaid with quartz and obsidian, and lapis outlines the brows.
Symbols on the Brow
A cobra and a vulture rise from the forehead. They stand for Lower and Upper Egypt, ruled together. The back carries a spell from the Book of the Dead.
A gold funerary mask pendant keeps that image of a protected king.
Wearing and Display
Wear the King Tut mask pendant at the chest on its heavy chain. Wipe with a soft cloth and store flat.
