Golden Spirals Reach for the Light: Klimt Tree of Life Stained Glass

Spiral branches swirl across the panel in rich brown, amber, black, and gold. This Klimt Tree of Life stained glass honors the ornamental style of Gustav Klimt. It glows when placed near a window or lamp.

Klimt's Tree of Life is a famous design of gold spirals and flowing lines. The theme appeals to artists who ponder the origins of life. In stained glass, the golden tendrils seem almost weightless.

A Klimt stained glass panel like this one looks like a book illustration brought to light. It is ornamental, golden, and linear.

About Gustav Klimt

Austrian painter Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was the second of seven children of a gold engraver. A scholarship let him train at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts. He was a founding member of the Vienna Secession, which challenged traditional taste. Byzantine, Egyptian, and Greek art shaped his gold spirals and rich symbolism of beauty, love, life, and death.
