In Greek myth, Medusa was the Gorgon whose gaze turned all who met it to stone, and the hero Perseus defeated her only by looking at her reflection in a polished shield. This mirror takes up that story. Instead of a portrait, the oval frame is formed entirely of her serpent hair: a writhing tangle of coiled snakes, each head raised and alert, with fine scale texture sculpted across every body. Strands of flowing hair show between the coils at the lower sides, and a knot of serpents crowns the base. Look into the glass and your own face takes the place of the Gorgon's.
The antiqued gold finish settles into darker tones in the recesses, giving the resin the look of aged bronze. In the ancient world the Gorgon's head, or gorgoneion, was set on shields, doorways and temple walls to turn away evil, and this piece carries that protective tradition into the home. It will suit an entry, a study or a collector's wall of mythological art.
