Male Nude Body Twisting Corps Sinner on Cross by Michelangelo 10H

A Body in Motion: The Michelangelo Torso Statue

This Michelangelo torso statue floats a twisting male body on a slim metal stand. It measures 10 in H x 3.5 in W x 3.5 in D with the stand.

The resin figure has a bronze finish, and the stand is black metal. The torso alone is 6.5 in H x 3.5 in W x 3 in D.

It reproduces an unfinished statue by Michelangelo, here called the Sinner on the Cross statue. The torso twists with the strength of a well defined body.

Power Without a Finish

An unfinished work lets us see the sculptor thinking. The male nude twisting sculpture is elegant and simple, and its study of the body is timeless.

Michelangelo believed the figure waited inside the stone. This Michelangelo bronze figurine keeps that sense of struggle.

Why Michelangelo Still Matters

Michelangelo was noticed at 15 by the powerful patron Lorenzo de Medici. He carved the Pieta and the David before he turned 30.

Pope Julius II then asked him to paint the Sistine Chapel ceiling. The frescoes took four years and won praise for their terribilita, or emotional force.

Display and Care

At 1.8 lbs, the Michelangelo torso statue needs a steady shelf or desk. Dust it with a soft dry cloth. Keep the bronze finish away from damp air.

Michelangelo in Brief

Michelangelo Buonarroti lived from 1475 to 1564. He was sculptor, painter, architect, and poet. He was the first artist to have a biography published while he was alive.
