Spearmint and Peppermint
Spearmint is native to Europe and southern temperate Asia. Its oil is dominated by carvone, which gives it a minty, spicy smell. Peppermint oil contains substantial menthol, and spearmint oil has only minimal amounts.
Citrus Comes West
Sour oranges, limes and pomelos reached the West through Muslim traders in the 10th century AD. Sweet oranges reached Europe in the 15th century. Mandarins arrived in the Mediterranean in the early 19th century.
Using and Storing Your Oil
Use a few drops of each oil from this mint citrus fragrance oil set in your own base. For oil burners, follow your burner maker's guidance and never leave a burner unattended. A spearmint peppermint scent suits a kitchen or bath. A lemon orange scent also blends well with eucalyptus mint oils. Browse more scents in the Fragrance Oils collection or the full Museumize fragrance collection. Keep the cap tight and store the bottle upright, away from heat and direct sun.
Mint and citrus both have long histories in cooking and perfumery. A lemon orange scent keeps a room bright. Many blend eucalyptus mint oils for a clean, cool effect. A spearmint peppermint scent makes a tidy finish.
