Museum Drink Coasters Inspired by Corneille’s Bold & Playful Cat Art

Bright, whimsical, and unmistakably modern, this set of four museum drink coasters brings the joyful world of Guillaume Corneille to your coffee table. Known for his bold colors and expressive linework, Corneille created a universe filled with cats, birds, flowers, and dreamlike figures. Each glass coaster in this set features one of his lively cat-themed works, turning everyday moments—morning coffee, evening tea, or a friendly gathering—into tiny celebrations of art and imagination.

These museum drink coasters showcase four expressive designs from Corneille’s oeuvre: Yellow Cat with Owner, Grey Cat with Trees, Blue Cat with Bird, and Blue and Red Cat with Red Woman. Each piece is printed beneath smooth glass to protect the artwork and keep colors bright over time. Vibrant yellows, intense blues, fiery oranges, and bold black outlines echo the spirit of Corneille’s work while adding a lively pop of color to any table. Whether your décor leans modern, bohemian, or eclectic, this set brings warmth and personality to the room.

Each coaster measures approximately 3⅞ inches in diameter and includes four rubber feet on the bottom to prevent slipping and protect surfaces from scratches. The set weighs about 1.2 pounds and includes a sleek black metal rack for storage. These abstract cat coasters belong to the Parastone Museum Gift Collection, a European-designed line known for transforming iconic artworks into functional, giftable home décor.

Corneille’s Cat Paintings Featured in This Museum Drink Coaster Set

As a founding member of the CoBrA movement, Corneille embraced expressive, spontaneous imagery influenced by folk art, children’s drawings, and intuitive creativity. His cat motifs are among his most beloved subjects, painted with emotional warmth and playful exaggeration. These museum drink coasters celebrate that imaginative spirit.

Yellow Cat with Owner shows the companionship between human and animal through bold shapes and a sunlit palette. Grey Cat with Trees blends fantasy with landscape, giving the cat an almost watchful presence. Blue Cat with Bird is filled with movement, contrasting the stillness of the cat with the fluttering bird above. And Blue and Red Cat with Red Woman creates a surreal narrative of color and connection. Together, these images highlight Corneille’s instinctive storytelling and his joyful, dreamlike view of the world.

About the Artist: Guillaume Corneille

Guillaume Corneille (1922–2010) was a Dutch artist and one of the founders of the CoBrA movement, a postwar avant-garde group that emphasized spontaneity, expressive color, and intuitive drawing. Inspired by artists such as Miró, Picasso, and Paul Klee, Corneille developed a distinctive style filled with cats, birds, flowers, and poetic figures. His joyful lines and vivid palettes reflect his belief in creativity as a direct emotional language. Corneille spent his final years in France and is buried in Auvers-sur-Oise, not far from Vincent van Gogh, whose spirit of experimentation he admired.
