This Celtic snake necklace coils a serpent through interlocking knotwork, a figure the Irish call Nathair. Druidic tradition held the snake as a creature of buried knowledge. It moved between the visible world and the underworld beneath it.
According to Celtic folklore, wearing this pendant echoes an old Druidic custom. They called themselves serpents to signal their standing as keepers of wisdom. The poet Taliesin wrote directly, "I am a wiseman, I am a serpent." The line links snake and sage as one.
