The Meteorite Behind the Fire
The Allende meteorite fell on February 8, 1969, over Pueblito de Allende in northern Mexico. Debris spread across about 30 miles. It is the largest known carbonaceous chondrite.
Allende holds calcium-aluminum-rich inclusions, called CAIs. CAIs are among the oldest solids that formed in the solar system. Measurements put its age near 4.5 billion years, close to the age of the solar system. A 2020 report described extraterrestrial proteins in the stone.
Wearing Meteorite Jewelry
The glass top keeps the dust sealed and visible. Wipe the sterling silver earrings with a soft cloth. Keep this meteorite jewelry dry, and return it to the box between wears.

About This Meteorite Type
A carbonaceous chondrite is a stony meteorite rich in carbon compounds and small mineral grains. Allende is the largest known example, which is why labs study it so often. These Allende meteorite earrings let you wear a sample of that early material.
