Earliest of the Giants

Otodus is the first megatooth shark. It may have reached 30 to 40 ft, with vertebrae over five inches across.

The main tooth is flanked by smaller cusplets. Larger teeth usually have two.

Before Megalodon

Megalodon teeth lost those cusplets and became serrated, a later adaptation for tearing flesh. An Otodus obliquus tooth shows the earlier design.
