Robie House Stained Glass: The Prairie Horizon in Glass
The Robie House stretches low and long, like the prairie it honors. Its glass wraps the rooms in rhythm and light. This Robie House stained glass panel captures that spirit in a slender form.
Wright designed the house between 1909 and 1910 for Frederick C. Robie, in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood. It is often called the finest example of the Prairie style. Long horizontal bands, deep eaves, and ribbons of windows define its character.
In 2019 the house joined the UNESCO World Heritage List. It was one of eight Wright buildings recognized together.
Windows as Light Screens
Wright called his windows light screens. They admit daylight, yet shape privacy and mood. Here, clean geometry takes the place of pictorial scenes. This Frank Lloyd Wright Robie window reflects that restraint. It is Prairie style stained glass in its purest form.
Wright believed ornament should grow from the structure itself. Our Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass collection brings that belief into smaller pieces. Each Frank Lloyd Wright art glass design carries a trace of the building it came from. Frank Lloyd Wright art glass often rewards close looking.
