Spanish Sage
Salvia lavandulifolia, or Spanish sage, is native to Spain and southern France. It grows in rocky soil in maquis shrubland beside rosemary and lavender. It is a small, reclining perennial with narrow, whitish-gray leaves and pale lavender flowers.
A Cousin of Garden Sage
Spanish sage is treated as a subspecies of Salvia officinalis, the garden sage. The genus name Salvia comes from the Romans, and Pliny the Elder recorded it. Spanish sage oils are used to scent soaps.
Using and Storing Your Oil
Add a few drops of this sage essential oil to a bath or diluted base. For a bath, add 10 drops to water and soak for 10 to 20 minutes. For massage, dilute to 4 percent in 96 percent base oil. Spanish sage oil also suits a summer bath scent. Browse more scents in the Fragrance Oils collection or the full Museumize fragrance collection. Do not leave within reach of children. Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous areas. It can cause irritation if applied directly to the skin. Because of natural allergens, get approval from an aromatherapy professional or doctor before use. Keep the cap tight and store the bottle upright, away from heat and direct sun.
Sage grew in Roman gardens and in Spanish hills. This oil comes from the Spanish species. Choose sage oil for bath for a refreshing soak. A summer bath scent with Spanish sage oil feels light and green.
