Roses at War

For decades, the red rose of Lancaster and the white rose of York stood for rival royal families. Their struggle is known as the Wars of the Roses. Henry VII took the crown from Richard III at Bosworth Field in 1485. He married Elizabeth of York in 1486 and joined the two roses. The new Tudor rose had red petals around a white center.

The Emblem of a Dynasty

The Tudor rose marked the royal house for 118 years, from 1485 to 1603. It appeared on coins, palace walls, and royal badges. Gold-plated Tudor jewelry carries that emblem in miniature.

Wearing the Rose as the Tudors Did

At the Tudor court, a badge was a public statement. Courtiers wore the royal rose to show loyalty to the crown. Portraits of the period show jewels worn at the neck. This Tudor rose pendant brings that custom to a modern wardrobe. The gold finish catches the light on the 18 in chain. It sits well with velvet, brocade, or a plain linen gown.

Styling and Wearing the Tudor Rose Necklace

Wear this Renaissance costume necklace for stage plays, faires, and Tudor-themed gatherings. It also works beside modern clothing. It makes a handsome gift for a young history fan. Matching earrings, PN 8834, are also available. Browse related pieces in our English and British History collection.

Care Notes

Wipe the gold plate with a soft, dry cloth. Keep it dry and away from perfume and harsh chemicals. Store it flat in a pouch.

The Tudor Dynasty

The Tudors were Henry VII, Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I. The dynasty ended in 1603 with the death of Elizabeth I. Its rose remains a lasting symbol of England.
