A Boy King's Face on Your Cuff: Tutankhamun Mask Cufflinks

A tiny gold face looks out from each cufflink, framed by the striped royal headdress. These Tutankhamun mask cufflinks adapt the funerary mask found in the king's tomb. Each measures about 3/4 in square and 1 in long.

King Tut cufflinks like these take a real treasure down to a wrist-sized relief.

The Mask Itself

The original mask weighs about 22.5 lb, or 10.23 kg. It is made of two sheets of gold hammered and joined by heat. The eyes are quartz and obsidian, and lapis lazuli outlines the brows.

On the brow sit the cobra of Lower Egypt and the vulture of Upper Egypt. Together they show the king ruling both lands. The back carries a spell from chapter 151 of the Book of the Dead.

A Tomb Found in 1922

Tutankhamun ruled as pharaoh from about 1333 to 1323 BC. Howard Carter found his tomb in the Valley of the Kings in 1922. The mask lay on the king's mummy.

Egyptian funerary mask cufflinks echo the object that made the discovery famous.

Why a Funerary Mask

The mask gave the dead king a permanent, godlike face. The spell on its back was meant to protect it. Egyptian funerary mask cufflinks keep that idea of a protective face.

Wearing and Display

Wear the Tutankhamun mask cufflinks with a white or pale blue shirt. They suit French cuffs and dinner jackets alike. Wipe them with a soft cloth after wearing.

King Tut cufflinks catch attention across a table. Store gold plate cufflinks in a lined box. See more in our Museum Jewelry Cufflinks and Tie Tacks.

About Tutankhamun

Tutankhamun came to the throne as a boy and died young. His tomb survived almost intact, which is why his name is famous today. The Tutankhamun mask cufflinks are a small way to carry that story. King Tut cufflinks, funerary mask cufflinks and other gold plate cufflinks all start from that one face.
