Raiders and Settlers
The Viking Age is often said to begin in 793, when raiders struck the monastery at Lindisfarne. The packaging describes how Vikings raided and then settled in England. By 886 a treaty set the borders of the Danelaw, where Norse law and custom held. The Norse role playing figures turn that history into play.
The Axe and the Shield
Swords belonged to a few Viking warriors, but many owned an axe. Most axes began as woodworking tools. In the late 900s the Dane axe appeared, a long-handled broad axe made for battle. A warrior swinging it with two hands could not carry a shield. Shields were round and wooden, with an iron boss at the center. The famous Gokstad ship burial held sixty-four of them. These figures show both sides of Viking fighting, the weapon and the defense.
For Teaching and Games
Game masters can field the warriors on a table. Teachers can use the packaging text to open a home school lesson. Viking miniature figures help children picture the raiders of the North. Many families keep a Viking figurine set with their history books.
Playing and Displaying the Viking Warriors Miniatures
Keep the figures in the box until play begins. They also stand well on a desk shelf. Browse related pieces in our Vikings and Norsemen collection.
