The House That Ruth Built

Yankee Stadium opened in April 1923 with room for 58,000 fans. Its three-tier stands were the first of their kind in the country.

Writers called it the House That Ruth Built, since it suited Babe Ruth. The Yankees played there for 85 years.

The Last Game and a New Park

The final game was played on September 21, 2008, against the Baltimore Orioles. The new stadium hosted its first game in April 2009.

The original 1923 Yankee Stadium was then taken down. The bricks were shipped to the Bronx in the 1920s. See more in our Authentic Historical Artifacts.
