The Ylang-Ylang, scientific name Cananga Odorata, is a tree native to tropical Asia. The Dayaks of Borneo have baptized this flower with the name of Kananga, flower of flowers.
The Indians also used flowers mixed with coconut oil to protect their hair, this mixture was known as Bori-bori, and is excellent for skin care.
The essence is obtained from the distillation of its flowers, has the ability to regulate the cardiac system, and to reduce hypertension and has, therefore, relaxing and antidepressant properties. They are also attributed aphrodisiac and euphoric virtues. But excessive use can cause headaches, nausea or skin irritation.
